Wheat...Lower trade across the futures complex coming out of the long
holiday weekend weighed on west coast cash wheat markets, as bids drifted
lower in early week trade. Deferred exporter bids show carries of 10 to
20 cents from harvest into the new calendar year.
Crop Progress...Continued dry conditions once again nipped PNW winter
wheat conditions, with the three-state index slipping 2 points to 93% of
average. Idaho and Oregon each saw good to excellent ratings drop 1 point
to 61% and 45%, respectively, but Washington declined 9% to 54%. Spring
wheat ratings for Washington also dropped 11% to 45% good to excellent.
Shipments...Weekly export inspections showed wheat movement off U.S.
ports came in near the prior week at 16 million bushels, putting year-
to-date loadings at 65 million bushels and 1% ahead of a year ago. Hard
red winter was the top mover with 7.6 million bushels, followed by red
spring wheat with 2.9 million and soft white with 1.2 million. Export
activity on the west coast showed 3.8 million bushels of wheat shipped,
going mostly to The Philippines, along with 17 million bushels of corn.
